1. Style smarter.
When heat styling, use a heat protectant spray. This helps buffer against heat. In turn, protecting your natural cuticle from damage.
Invest in professional hot tools that use ionic technology to retain moisture in the hair shaft. Solid ceramic curling/straight irons help you style more quickly, minimizing heat exposure.
2. Wash less often.
If your goal is to have longer, thicker hair, this is an absolute must. Surfactants in shampoos break down the natural lipid barrier of your hair and scalp. This protective barrier prevents splitting and helps retain moisture.
A good dry shampoo is the secret to showering less.
3. Vitamins and minerals are key.
Biotin, trace minerals, and vitamins are essential for growing long, strong, beautiful hair. Many of the important nutrients are not bio-available in the food we eat because they are no longer present in the soil. The use of antibiotics hinders absorption even more given the modern state of the gut biome.
My favorite supplement for healthy hair is Dr. Berg's hair formula (not sponsored). And it's available on Amazon!
4. Avoid Toxic Ingredients.
Most hair products are a concoction of questionable ingredients. Use the Think Dirty app and EWG.org to check the toxicity rating of your current line up. You may be surprised!
5. Rinse with cool water.
Finishing with a quick rinse of cool water in the shower will seal the cuticle and prevent frizz.
